In particular you should look for software that will log, manage, and track your trades while also facilitating risk management strategies and performance analysis. Better quality solutions will also have advanced features such as screenshot uploads, news announcement features, integration with other platforms, price feeds, and professional trading tools.

Forex trade management software is essentially a tool to manage your trades from conception until completion. Managing your trades effectively means clearly seeing the rationale behind a trade decision and then following it through until the position is closed in accordance with your specific trading plan. Trade management becomes particularly important as the number of your trades increases. At any one point in time you may have a large number of open positions to consider. These trades may be based on varying strategies and also have different timeframes or currency pairs.

While a trader usually has a clear idea about why he entered a trade, and the specific goal or target for it, this can easily be forgotten or ignored when you have multiple open positions that may extend over differing periods. It is easy to lose track of your trades and your overall goals. A person’s ability to master effective trade management is what separates them from being a novice to being a successful long-term trader.

Forex trade management software is a resource used by professional traders to enable them to invest with structure and confidence. It allows a trader to address the following:

Determine and utilize a set of rules, based on a specific trading plan, before entering into a trade. This can be used as a checklist to assist decision making and later position reviews.

Record the particular reasons behind a position and the anticipated result or timeframe. It can also keep notes on the type of trade, charts used, and profit goals.

Flexibility to analyze and then potentially adjust stops and relevant targets. This may also lead to
splitting a trade and taking partial profits or losses.

It is important to undertake regular review and analysis of your trading performance. This will facilitate better long-term decision making and increased confidence.

Icici Bank Sells Terminals Of Card Payment

ICICI Bank has concluded the sale of its network of electronic point of sales (PoS) terminals that accept Credit Card and Debit Card payments to First Data Corporation (FDC). The bank has hived off its network of over 1.5 lakh electronic swipe machines to a separate company ICICI Merchant Services. First Data has bought an 81% stake in the company which has been valued at a little over $90 million.

When contacted, ICICI Bank refused to comment on the transaction. The bank has, however, communicated to merchants having ICICI Bank terminals that the PoS network has been transferred to ICICI Merchant Services. First Data, along with partner banks, is keen to proliferate payment transactions not just at top retailers but also through small cities or towns in India, said Amrish Rau, country manager, First Data Corporation.

Referring to the transaction with ICICI Bank, Mr Rau said an announcement would be made in due course. Mr Rau, who represents First Data in the country, is likely to head the new payments company. First Data is a US-based company that has been created after banks farmed out their back office processing systems into a separate company. FDC is presently owned by private equity giant KKR.

The Reserve Bank of India has already given clearance for the deal. According to banking sources, the deal value has gone up after RBI said that merchant establishments, including grocery stores and supermarkets, could swipe customer cards and offer them cash.

In addition to unlocking value, ICICI Bank expects that the specialised company will bring down transactions costs and also grow the payment network more efficiently. This is the first time that an Indian bank has hived off its PoS terminal network.

So far it has been foreign banks that have outsourced these functions but their network is of much smaller scale.

ICICI Merchant Services will earn a fee every time a credit cards or debit cards transaction is processed through the point of sale network. The fee is usually borne by the merchant and a large part of it goes to the card issuing bank. This is in lieu of the credit that the issuing bank extends to the cardholder until the end of the billing cycle. A smaller part of the commission goes to the bank owning the PoS terminal (acquiring bank) and smaller portion to the payment company Mastercard or Visa.

Incidentally, State Bank of India has for some time expressed its intention to set up a network of half a million point of sales terminals. To build this network the bank had earlier sought partners. However, the project was shelved as the bank decided to take a more holistic approach of its payments business.

The New Zealand Banking System – Strengths and Weaknesses

New Zealand enjoys a modern and efficient banking system, one that is open and transparent, and easy to use. New Zealand banks, with one exception, are Australian-owned, which effectively makes them branches of their Australian parent banks.

This has turned out for the benefit of the New Zealand banking industry because as the Australian economy has remained very strong during the GFC, the banking system in both New Zealand and Australia has remained very liquid. In other words, New Zealand has to a large extent escaped the effects of the financial melt-down of the banking system that many Northern Hemisphere countries have experience over the last 5 or 6 years.

Employment has remained quite strong in Australia and New Zealand over the last 5 years, despite the recession, with unemployment peaking at around 7 % in New Zealand and 6 % in Australia. As a result, New Zealand banks have continued to lend during this period, enabling businesses access to bank finance, and home buyers to be able to buy housing. As a result, the property market has now returned to where it was 5 years ago, and continues to grow at a steady pace.

The other advantage of a strong banking system is that new immigrants to New Zealand have been able to enter the country under the business visa scheme which has been helped by banks being willing to provide loan finance of up to 50 % of the purchase price of a New Zealand business. This in turn has resulted in these new immigrants bringing money into the country, and this has helped our currency to remain quite high.

The flip-side of a strong New Zealand banking system, is that because interest rates have remained high by world standards (retail rates around 5 % / term deposits around 3 % ), this has contributed to a strong New Zealand currency that has made it harder for exporters to compete on the world stage. In fact the New Zealand dollar has appreciated against most other currencies – for example about 80 % against the US dollar, over the last 30 years. This has made it easier for New Zealand banks to attract funds from the likes of Japanese pension funds where bank deposit rates are much lower (around zero).

Economists remain quite bullish towards the New Zealand economy for the above reasons, but also for the fact that it is a well-governed, progressive and diversified economy, with agriculture as its mainstay. In fact New Zealand’s ability to produce high-quality food products puts it in a strong position to take advantage of the increasing wealth of Asia and their growing demand for food. This is likely to cause the New Zealand banking industry to remain in good heart for the foreseeable future. If you are looking to immigrate to New Zealand and needing to transfer money into New Zealand, we are able to help you with this.

Inflation and Interest Rates Simplified From The Reserve Bank’s Monetary Policy Statement

Two major topics discussed in the Reserve Banks 39-page September Monetary Policy Statement (MPS) are inflation and interest rates. In June, the Bank forecasted inflation to be 4.5% this year. The latest forecast from the Bank expects inflation to be 0.7% lower at 3.8%. Additionally, the Banks 2011 inflation forecast has been reduced from 2.9% to 2.4%.

The lower inflation forecasts are not out of the blue given the lower economic growth projections announced by the Reserve Bank. Factors attributable to the muted inflation pressures include: weaker consumer demand, basically non-existent lending growth, unemployment figures at over 5%, reductions in house prices and deleveraging.

The Bank stated that it will look through the impact on inflation as a result of the increase in GST, the Emissions Trading Scheme, plus other related tax changes. The Bank forecasts that an additional 2.7% will be added to inflation as a result of these former factors, with the Consumer Price Index crowning at 4.8% in June 2011. Taking aside these factors, the underlying inflation rate would be 2.1%.

It is important to note the following stern warning delivered by the Bank in the September MPS. If the factors mentioned above begin to influence individuals behaviour, then the Bank will move quickly to increase interest rates. Price setting will be monitored, as will wage negotiations and surveys of inflationary expectations to gauge if there is evidence that the bump in inflation is becoming ingrained. If this is the case, it can be expected that fast and material increases in the Official Cash Rate (OCR) will follow.

Regarding interest rates, the theme is the same as with economic growth and inflation lower for longer. Unlike the June MPS, the Bank now expects interest rates to rise a lot more slowly. This links back to the Banks cuts to GDP and inflation estimates. The June MPS forecasted interest rates to rise 3.1 % over the next two years, up from the then current level of 3.0% to 6.1% by the end of 2012.

According to the September MPS, the Bank now estimates interest rates to rise by only half as much. 90-day bank bills are forecast to increase from their current 3.2% to be 4.1% in December 2011 an increase of just 1.4%.

If you have a floating mortgage, this reduction in the increase of estimated interest rates will be good news. Although, as the Bank does point out in the September MPS, it expects to increase the OCR over the next few years, the pace and extent of these increases will be lower than forecast in the June MPS.

Learning To Trade Overnight Trading Range Breakouts

Trading breakouts is one of the most tried and tested methods of trading the forex markets because when the price breaks out of an established trading range, it often continues to move strongly in that direction. Therefore there are some excellent profits to be made.

There are lots of different ways you can trade breakouts. You can wait for a quiet period of the day for instance when the price is barely moving and is confined to a very narrow range, and wait for a breakout to take place, or you can use bollinger bands and wait for them to narrow because this often precedes a strong breakout. However in this article I want to talk about a particular strategy that involves opening ranges.

I’ve been experimenting with this strategy on the GBP/USD and EUR/USD pairs recently and it seems to work very well. What you basically do is to look at the opening hours between 00.00 and 06.00 GMT (or 08.00 if the price is still within this range up until this time) and draw two horizontal lines marking the high and low points for this period.

Then you simply wait for the price to break out and close above (or below) one of these lines and take a corresponding long or short position. This method works well when there is a narrow opening range and the reason it works is simple. Every pair has an average daily range (the GBP/USD is roughly 220 points and the EUR/USD is roughly 180 points according to 2008 figures) so if the opening range is a small fraction of this number, then you know that there are a lot of points to be made either above or below the current opening range.

It’s not a method that can be used every day on a certain currency pair because sometimes the price will move quite substantially in the opening few hours, but it’s well worth putting into practice when the opening range is very narrow.

There are various ways you can actually trade this system. You can either jump in as soon as the breakout bar or candle closes, or if you want to place the odds substantially in your favour, you can wait for an initial breakout followed by a pull-back into this trading range, then trade the subsequent breakout (if there is one) because this continuation pattern is a very profitable signal.

Either way you should find that these strategies (or variants of these strategies) are generally very effective because the price will very often move strongly out of this opening range at some point during the day.
